Laparoscopy & General Surgery
Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that uses a small camera and specialized tools to access and treat various conditions inside the abdomen and pelvis. It is performed under general anesthesia and involves making a small incision through which the laparoscope is inserted.
Some of the conditions that can be treated with laparoscopy include:
- Gallbladder disease: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a common procedure used to remove the gallbladder in cases of gallstones or other issues.
- Hernias: Laparoscopic hernia repair is a minimally invasive way to treat various types of hernias, including inguinal hernias, umbilical hernias, and incisional hernias.
- Endometriosis: Laparoscopy can be used to diagnose and treat endometriosis, a condition where the tissue that lines the uterus grows outside of it, causing pain and other symptoms.
- Gynecological issues: Laparoscopy can also be used to treat conditions such as ovarian cysts, ectopic pregnancies, and tubal blockages.
- Digestive disorders: Laparoscopic surgery can be used to treat conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and diverticulitis.
General surgery, on the other hand, encompasses a wide range of surgical procedures that involve the treatment of various medical conditions. It can be performed using open surgery or minimally invasive techniques such as laparoscopy.
